The Marble Faun or The Romance of Monte Beni by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
1889 Riverside Edition - IN TWELVE VOLUMES - VOLUME VI (only). 527 pages.
Complete works of Nathaniel Hawthorne, with introductory notes by George Parsons Lathrop and illustrated with etchings by Blum, Church, Dielman, Gifford, Shirlaw, and Turner.
Boston and New York: Houghton, Mifflin and Company. The Riverside Press, Cambridge, Mass., U.S.A., 1889. Electrotyped and Printed by H.O. Houghton & Company.
Condition: There is handwriting in pencil on the first blank page. There is significant age-toning. There is rough edgewear on the edges of the spine. The first bundle of pages has completely detached from the binding (please see photos), with other stapled bundles of pages detaching too. The binding is delicately holding onto the rest of the pages, but not likely for too much longer... so the wear is significant, and the threads are showing (most noticeably where it is pulling from the back cover). The inside cover paper is torn on the inside front cover, and completely torn open on the inside back cover. It is an acceptable antique book (showing expected deterioration and wear which comes with the years).
